FAQ 2012
Can siblings and/or friends be registered in the same group?
Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis. As classes may fill quickly, the Nature Center cannot guarantee that your child and their same-aged friend will be placed together. When you complete your registration, please mail your child’s forms together with their friend’s forms. We will do our best to accommodate you.
What is your refund policy?
No refunds will be issued unless cancellations are made before June 1, 2012 (minus a $50.00 processing fee per week). Please refer to the general information page #14 of the summer camp brochure.
Can I switch camp sessions?
Yes switching camp sessions is allowed, however it will incur a $25 change fee if switching to a session of a different monetary amount.
Does my child need to bring a lunch?
If your child is attending camp on their own without a parent then the camper is responsible for bringing their own lunch and beverage. Please send them with a refillable water bottle to use throughout the day.
Will my child receive a snack? Are snacks peanut free?
Yes your student will receive a snack each day of camp. All snacks are peanut free. If you have any questions or concerns regarding allergies please contact the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator at 216-321-5935 ext.243
Will my child receive a t-shirt and photo?
Yes, all campers receive one t-shirt for the summer on the first day of their camp and a camp photo on the last day of their session.
After registration, what information will I receive?
Your registration confirmation letter will be mailed to you. Please be sure to retain this page as it contains your Camp and Session Name. You will also receive a medical form that needs to be filled out and turned in on or before the first day of your child’s camp. Form is also available on-line.
Can I send sunscreen and/or insect repellent with my child to camp? My child will require medication during the day. Can the camp staff administer this medication on my behalf?
Yes. If you would like for camp staff to apply sunscreen and/or insect repellent or administer medication, you must complete the Request For Administration of Medication Form. The form can be printed from our website, or we can mail or fax it to you.
Can my child attend camp for more than one session?
Yes, your child may attend for however many he/she wants. There is a different theme for each session in the nine weeks. Please register all sessions on the same registration sheet, but one registration per child.
Where should I drop off my child if we arrive after 9:10 am?
At the same classroom door entrance, however doors are locked so you will need to ring the doorbell to the right of the door to be let in.
When do the doors open for camp?
For security purposes doors are unlocked 5 minutes before camper drop off and pick up.
Where do I drop off/pick up my camper?
Main Entrance: Nature Nursery
Classroom Entrance: Squirrel Scouts, Nature’s Lifeguards, Nature’s Explorer’s
Pavilion: Big Little, Eco-Rangers, Eco-Adventures
Can someone else pick up my child from camp?
Yes, however they need to be listed on the emergency medical form as an authorized person for pick up.
When do the emergency medical forms need to be submitted?
Prior to or on the first day of camp. Your child will not be allowed to stay at camp if the form is not filled out and signed by a parent/guardian. If you child has specific needs the earlier you fill out your form the sooner the naturalist can prepare to meet those needs.
My child needs to leave early for an appointment. Is this possible?
Yes, please notify the naturalist teaching your child’s class at drop off.
What should I do if my child will be absent?
Please contact the camp registrar at 216-321-5935 ext. 235. A message will be given to your child’s teacher. This allows for the class to hike at their normal time instead of waiting for a late arrival.
Are there discounts available for registering multiple children or for multiple sessions?
We have a sibling discount of $5 off for each additional child registered at the same time.An early bird discount of $5 off each session registered before March 1st. Also we have a membership discounted rate, please see camp brochure for details, however this is typically a $20 discount per class.
How do I become a Member? How much does a membership cost?
You can sign up for a membership when you register your student by selecting the Family $65 membership on the camp registration. Not only will you receive a discount for camp, but discounted rates for our Family programs and events.
Can my child bring a backpack, additional clothes, water bottle, iPod to camp?
No iPod’s or other electronic devices are permitted at camp. Yes, additional clothes are a great idea and can stay in the child’s classroom until needed. Water bottle is a must have when hiking. Most students bring backpacks to carry all their
stuff to camp, however when hiking they need to be able to carry what they bring,or leave it in the classroom.
Who will be teaching my child?
All Staff are CPR and First Aid Certified, and have been subject to criminal background checks to insure your child’s safety. We hire highly trained naturalists and teachers who are excited to share their knowledge and love for nature.
How do you select your teenage volunteers?
All of the teenage volunteers go through the following process: submit an application with two references, attend a group interview. Then upon acceptance into the program attend a 3 hour orientation.
