Welcome Desk/ Visitor Services Assistants help ensure our guests' experience at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes is a positive one. Use your enthusiasm for the environment to greet and assist visitors, answer the phone, help with the gift shop, and prepare mailings.
OFFICE ASSISTANT
Help Nature Center staff with a wide variety of administrative projects. Short term and long term projects are available.
PROOFREADER/ EDITOR
If you are great with grammar or an expert at editing we need you! The Center's communication team is looking for a a few extra pairs of eyes to help proofread and edit the newsletter, press releases, general correspondence, and web/e-mail text. Schedule is flexible and projects can be completed at the Center or off-site.
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CLASS ASSISTANT (Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter sessions)
Work with children ages 3 to 10 years old, assist our naturalists with class supervision, activities, and craft preparation. Learn along with the kids as you participate in hikes and other activities. Call for specific class dates and times.
General Duties:
Help prepare craft projects.
Keep track of children on hikes.
Assist with anything that will make the classes more enjoyable for the children.
Qualifications:
Able and willing to talk/ interact with children
Pleasant personality and ready smile
Patience, enthusiasm, and dependability
Prior experience with children
Ability to hike in winter weather (snow, cold, etc.)
Good physical condition is required for hikes
FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES NEEDED!
Come to the Nature Center and assist our Naturalists with field trips for 3rd and 4th grade classes from Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District. Help with learning activities, crafts, hikes and more!
SPECIAL EVENTS
Assist with one or many of the Nature Center's Special Events throughout the year.
April 19: Nature Center and Doan Brook Clean-Up
10 a.m. to Noon or 1 to 3 p.m.
Come celebrate Earth Day at the Nature Center by cleaning up the Nature Center grounds and areas of the Doan Brook. Activities include trail maintenance, litter pick-up and land management duties. Click here to sign-up for a session.
May 8 to 10: Annual Plant Sale
Shifts available between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Get involved now with the Plant Sale by assisting with the sale preparations such as logistics, delivery coordination, refreshments or 'home growns'. Help also needed on the 8th, 9th and 10th of May with filling pre-sale orders, organizing plants, making deliveries and assisting customers! Click here to sign-up to volunteer.
